Does it have a Nazi flag flying, I mean drifting above it?

The perfect conspiracy theory:

The Nazis are going to create a new super-race by combining
Elvis DNA (he's not dead)) with Princess Diana DNA (Nah, she didn't die either) in a submerged laboratory in the depths of the Baltic.

Gross Teknik Unterseehaus.

Oh, just in case you think I flipped, (February, 30th; it's a joke son!) I'm trying to untangle my tongue from the depths of my cheek.

 LOL!!! ;)

I think I recall quite a few of those. Especially with the gas eruptions of underwater lakes there, which had devastating effects. From what the few survivors described it, it felt like they were "drowning in the air".

Something tells me that if a similar event occurs in the Baltic, we'll get a lot less survivors, and their experiences will be a lot less pleasant.

Thermoclines are layers in a body of water where there is an abrupt change in temperature. In the ocean, they are usually mobile and temporary, (submarines hide under them because they tend to reflect sonar) but in small, enclosed bodies of water they often separate fresh, oxygenated surface waters from deep layers saturated with poisonous gases in solution from decomposing algae, etc. They are also anerobic. The almost-landlocked Baltic has had one for years, the surface waters can be fished, but the depths are toxic, without oxygen, and with hydrogen sulfide gas in solution. There is a similar one in the Black Sea.

A few years ago a volcanic lake in Africa underwent some kind of temperature reversal where the toxic water underneath changed places with the clean, productive surface waters. At lower pressures, the H2S precipitated out of solution and bubbled out killing hundreds of villagers who lived along the shore.

And this was a completely natural phenomenon.

Lemme guess... These thermoclines have some sort of narrow release point where the toxins are released in their condensed for, right?

*Scratches Zealand off of vacation list*

Unfortunately, right or wrong, that seems to be an excellent conjecture.

That's scary. The Baltic also has a large "dead zone" an anaerobic area containing no oxygen and posonous H2S in solution (caused by
rotting vegetation). These zones often form where temperature inversions and thermoclines create trapped volumes where toxins can accumulate.

Oh, god.

<a href="http://www.helcom.fi/stc/files/Publications/OtherPublications/1994Report-ChemicalMunitionsDumpedInTheBalticSea.pdf" rel="nofollow">I think I have an idea of what it might be, after reading the word "cylinder" in the newspost.</a> If so, then the degradation on those things spell bad news for everyone.
