In my early thirties, when I was a self righteous dudette, I, too, held the holier than thou attitude. But I grew up. Matured.

It would be really cool if these maniacal decepticons would actually evolve past the kindergarten concept of god.

I did...and I am here to tell them...there is life...a wonderful life *after* emotional blackmail disguised as tolerance.

There's nothing new about these guys, Jody. They have been part of the American landscape since day one. Even before we became a country, religious intolerance was a part of American life, and it is to the great credit of our founding fathers that they recognized this and gave us a secular constitution and freedom of religion as basic rights.

What is new is the recent development that these religious agendas have now become identified with political ones, and that a certain kind of religiosity has now allied itself with a certain kind of economic and political ideology.

The Bible, in fact, all the holy books of all faiths, contain very little recommendations as to how we should organize ourselves politically or economically. The fact that this is now a political and economic issue is evidence to me that it is a shameless attempt to mobilize religious sentiment as a political tool to achieve economic power.

This is why people like me recoil so instinctively at fundamentalist religion of any denomination. I don't care what myths others organize their lives by, but I am very sensitive to those who seek to organize my life around their myths. If there is a god, he simply does not care whether I am a Liberal or a Conservative.

Being a strong supporter of pro choice...I hope it sheds light on the religious zealots that are attempting to force their dogma on others.

Hijack for a religious-political cause, really. No one here wanted to tell you RIGHT away.

There are people out there who, in a moment of weakness, will do things like that. They are RIGHT there in front of us, though you may not notice them RIGHT away. They think they are RIGHT.

So let me see if I got this right.

An attempt was made to essentially hijack a charitable organization and affect its policy to help promote a political agenda.

Shocking!

"Might be too little, too late for Komen, bioethicist says."

I agree. I'll never see the Komen organization as a pure, gold standard, interested only in women's health place again. I think they've hurt themselves very badly by pissing off both sides unnecessarily. I don't think they'll recover anything like their former glory, and I've been wrong before.
