The media and party bosses shouldn’t be picking the candidate, the voters should be. Santorum will be getting my vote. I don’t really like his religious views, but his views on the size and role of government and economic issues are fairly in line with mine

It is certainly true that the further rightward you are, the less you like Mitt. He has been here doing this before, remember. And at that time he was treated with even less respect than he’s getting now (cripes! McCain was considered the conservative alternative to Mitt, last time!)

The current best strategy for the Dems is to make certain that the conservative base knows how liberal he can be. Later on, in the general election, this information will be to his benefit while he tries to woo the middle. At that time the best bet for the Dems will be to publicize all his conservative quotes he has used to woo the conservatives in the primary. It is a little schizophrenic to do an about-face like that, but Mitt will be doing his own about-face at the same time.

Turnout has been way down as the vast uneducated GOP masses hang their heads, depressed at the fact the can’t find a true rightwing fanatic who can pass their ideological purity test.

In what way does he differ substantially from Obama on anything other than wanting even lower taxes for the wealthy? No one on the right trusts him when he says he will repeal Obomneycare.

I think that when Romney+PACs outspends/out-organizes the other candidates by 5-1 or more, then he wins. Corollary: it is going to be a very expensive primary for Romney and his supporters.

The national polls seem to swing to whoever won the last primary. It would be too easy to make a snarky quip about it, but I really have no idea why Republican opinion should be so volatile.
