Thanks for the link, TB. Visiting Hobbiton was one of the high points of our holiday Which is saying a lot. I was afraid Mrs. P wouldn't like it as she is nowhere near the fanantic I am; but she is a gardener so how could she not enjoy a walk through The Shire?

That's what was so wonderful about the place. There are vegie gardens and fruit trees planted all over the set all happy and fruiting in the Southern Hemiphere summer. Every little detail was simply perfect. When on the set, you cannot see anything of the modern world, save a metal hay shed in the distance, an ATV that was used by the farmer, and a bit of orange barrier keeping us tourists out of Hobbiton proper. I ached when I learned that next week there is a town meeting of some kind to allow the Green Dragon building to get permits to become a right and proper pub. Oh! To lift a tankard of 1420 and watch the swans swim in the pond!

What you do see are rolling green grassy hills covered in sheep and crops and beautiful trees.

Here's the link for the Farm: http://www.hobbitontours.com/

When I recover from literally 25 hours of travel and a February 16th that has lasted for almost two days I'll write up a bit more 'bout our adventures.

'Till then, I can truly say that I've been there, and am now back again.

I wish I could post any of the 300 photos I took, but I had to sign a form that I wouldn't until after the second movie was released. But it is a beautiful spot, just like the Shire for miles and miles. However, I can tell you it is located at 37.85724 S and 175.68172 E.

Yes, I am quite lucky, but not because of visiting Hobbiton (or Rivendell, Isenguard, etc...) but that Mrs P. celebrates ten years after chemo. That's the blessing.
