I read the first version of your post, and some of the comments as you decided to edit it. The edited version is easier on the sensibilities, an improvement in that sense, but maybe a bit of an overreaction.

It’d be totally unreasonable to expect anyone to stop being judgmental of their political opponents. The notion almost doesn’t parse, since conflict is the basis of politics, and in an ideal world politics is the art of conflict resolution.

But pre-judgmental, prejudiced, now that I can object to. It’s the sticking of the ears in the fingers while repetitively babbling “partisan…partisan…”. It’s the death of conversation and the start of zombie ping pong.

What does it mean if I object to something? alcaray seemed somewhat plaintive asking how he’s supposed to modifiy his behavior this time.

I don’t see any need to codify some new rule because of this discussion (even if I could think of a rule, I can read the wind just fine, thank you). The fact that we’ve had the discussion is “consciousness-raising” enough, if you’ll forgive the cliche. In a rather Skinnerian way.

You can be damn sure that the next time I catch myself getting snippy with Tom simply because he’s a right-winger, I’ll remember these two threads, and trust me, it’ll be shock the monkey time.

But your mileage may vary.

I believe Tom means this should have been posted on Flame.

Flame is for “pissed off… pissed on… pissed in the wind… or go piss up a knotted rope” comments…Community is where we kiss and make up.

I know two of us who have been following this have the same question. If you have a succinct, well stated answer to it, one to which we could refer next week and next year, I’d love to read it.

It would be hard for me to be non-judgmental regarding some conservative beliefs, which I point out. IF the changes necessitate that I guess here’s the place to find out.

But I guess the only possible saving grace is that in this post I’m not advocating any of those positions, I’m saying I would have a hard time getting out of them. But a do-over would be entirely different. My apologies to the HZ.
