Lt. Calley got 3.5 years of house arrest for ordering and participating in the slaughter of a minimum of 347 Vietnamese. These incidents all add up. Our military is not about hearts and minds, it's about killing. That's not the fault of the troops, it's the leadership and the public. A "hearts and minds" military would be hooted out of existence by those who don't want to understand others, just tell them what to do. The United States fights wars in a method to guarantee more resistance. So, the US is doomed to lose in all those conflicts, ironically for bringing a gun to a food fight.
