Bowser my indignation was not directed “at” Mr. Reclus. It was a genuine expression of a negative emotion and an assertion of my rights here.

And, I suspect that coming from anyone else besides yourself that belonged on Flame.

On the contrary, from the start (and you can verify this by reviewing my earlier posts on this issue) the idea of Zimmerman as a bloodthirsty villain and Martin as a sweet little Skittle-bearing innocent just seemed too pat and convenient, and too many people were becoming self-righteously indignant and outraged at how conveniently black and white (no pun intended) this was coming together.

As it is, we STILL have very little knowledge of what happened, and what we do know is all unofficial, second hand, or leaked.

Again, I apologize if I appeared condescending, I certainly did not mean it. In fact, I’ve been trying to steer an unbiased course through this case until we learn everything we can. Unfortunately, we may never know the whole truth now.

This forum has never restricted speculation and since it’s an effectively closed board, I’m going to give my opinion any damn time I feel like it.

This “news” has just been released, how convenient. Was it in the police report? Was there a police report? We are still relying on hearsay evidence, people who were talking to the victim, guys who know the shooter, etc etc. No witnesses, no evidence, no lawyers, no investigators, no cross-examination, no interrogation, no statements, no judges.

When this case first broke out, I appealed for caution and further investigation, and was concerned that perhaps Zimmerman was being scapegoated and railroaded. Maybe that is the case, but maybe it isn’t. I still have not heard any sworn testimony, seen affidavits, heard complete telephone call transcripts, phone records, even time lines. All we have so far are a family that wants revenge, a press with a juicy story, a community with an axe to grind, and a great scapegoat to test it on, a bunch of political rabble-rousers, a police force with a very sketchy record, and a suspect who has vanished. Everybody is feeling self-righteous about this, the racists are doing everything they can to discredit the victim, while their enemies are doing everything they can to demonize the suspect.

We still don’t know what happened. If you ask my opinion, I think the kid got fed up by this guy stalking him for no reason and he confronted him, perhaps aggressively. And Zimmerman reacted, perhaps justifiably, or he thought justifiably, with a gun.

But that’s my opinion. I wasn’t there, and I haven’t heard from anyone who was.

You know, before this case, the only other place I had ever seen the term “White Hispanic” was in official Census Bureau statistics I had been studying.
