This isn’t a matter of inaccuracy nor one of bias. It’s a matter manipulating information, twisting someone’s words into a lie for a purpose I can’t figure out.

While folks agree it’s marginally prejudicial to Zimmerman, no one else is reading maliciousness or conspiracy into it. Except the people who see a conspiracy in pretty much everything. I can’t find where Zimmerman’s lawyer is threatening to sue. He may yet, but he’s not hollering yet.

With nothing else to be proud of in this political season, I guess it’s natural to pick up on what you can, or make what you can.

NBC is just as biased as Fox. That’s a given. There are many channels on TV and sources from other media, and they all have bias in their own way (even BBC). This bias means they can and will alter facts or the perception thereof to their advantage and favor. Trusting just one source of news is, in my opinion, idiotic, and should be avoided.

News media also tends to rush information, skipping facts or making up ones to cover for what they don’t know. In this day and age of immediate communication through TV and the internet, there’s even MORE of a rush to get immediate info, on the spot, to drive up ratings. I feel that most journalism nowadays is mostly political ad-lib. Trusting that news reporters will know and/or tell %100 accurate facts immediately after the incident is, in my opinion, idiotic, and should be avoided (I should know, I’m guilty of this)

Seeing as most of the United States (myself included) in the past) will automatically take what pops up on the TV as fact when incidents of interest are concerned, I can only assume the most people are idiots.

But we don’t have to be. In these situations, I recommend doing what I did when the Columbia Exploded, when 9-11 occurred, when Fort Hood, Norway, and that recent Afghan shooting occurred, whenever a “life-changing” or “world-changing” event happens:

Turn off the TV, turn off the radio, turn off the computer, and go back to sleep. This shit usually resolves itself after 6 months, and if it doesn’t, you’ll have more facts by then. Check all news outlets for different sides of the story, then formulate the picture of the events in your own mind. make your own conclusions. Then share them.

(And as for the idiots comment, I mean no offense to anyone on the Zone. As I’ve stated, I’ve been just as guilty of this in the past, so that makes me an ex-idiot.)

It was specifically engineered to create an impression of Zimmerman as a racist.

Since that was the core of the false narrative, it’s hard to believe that was an accident.

This is so obvious that pretending not to understand it is just irritating.

I haven’t posted on any of the controversy surrounding this killing because I haven’t been able to tell what happened. I’m not prejudiced for or against either of the parties, don’t have a dog in that fight.

And I’m not at all convinced that edit was prejudicial to anyone.

I got a petition from MoveOn about this, and emailed them back to stick to national issues of import to the country. I added they demean themselves by trying to inflame emotions in murky matters of local concern.

It’s tough sometimes to understand comments here because we’ve been so sarcastic in the past. I think people are making an effort on the Zone to tone it down a bit. I was impressed by Buck’s recent posts on Flame. There was a level of sincerity that I don’t usually see from him.

I’m just bothered that NBC would do something to worsen race relations . Maybe I’m just being niave.
