But never forget...

...Marx was very good at identifying the cause of the problem, but he was piss-poor at coming up with any solutions to it.

Karl Marx. Friederich Engels. The ultra-wealthy. Mega-corporations.

Ironic, isn't it?

TB is ignoring the main point, again. Marx understood capitalism, greed, and foretold that the TBs would insure the collapse of capitalism. He can't face it, he can't answer it.

And the enormity of being played for such a sucker will forever prevent him from seeing it.

The basic Conservative traits of greed, of being incapable of acknowledging they are wrong, unable to accept responsibility for their actions, and having no compassion for those less fortunate are alive and well.

The TBs of the world have ensured that the old maxim that each revolution carries within it the seeds of it's own destruction is still operative. Marx is gloating.

Who's making out in this economy?

You tell me.

Ten of those fifteen counties are adjacent to Washington DC.

I've demonstrated that the "millionaire's tax" the Democrats are currently pushing would do nothing. Even combining it with the 2013 elimination of all the tax cuts that have been generated over the past ten years (including many on the non-rich), will make up less than half of the current deficit.

If you have a workable solution involving more taxes than this, bring it, or link to it. With the math, and the specifics on revenues that would be raised.

If you do, you'd be ahead of every Democratic politician demagoguing this.

Don't try the "transaction tax." Been there. It would raise $48 billion a year.

I'm done responding to generic, fact-challenged class warfare rants.

So the wealthy pay "most of the taxes", but a modest increase in their tax rate would not help in the slightest. That's a contradiction, On the other hand, the lower tiers, who are apparently greatly undertaxed by your reckoning, and contribute little to the public coffers, could really help a great deal if their tax rate was bumped up by the same amount in a flat tax. Say what?

You've tried that dodge before, TB. It's not going to work now any better than it did before. The rich pay more in taxes because THEY HAVE MOST OF THE MONEY. It's not really that hard. Think about it.

But its not just the statistics and the accounting. Its common decency, which is why I used the draft analogy: you don't keep rich kids out of the Army because there are so few of them compared to the poor it would make no difference.

The people with the bulk of the nation's wealth are morally obligated to pay more. They are the ones who have benefitted the most, they are the ones who can afford it the most, they are the ones whose standard of living is going to be affected the least. You don't get a reserved seat on the lifeboat just because you've got a first class ticket.

Remember, the necessities of life, a gallon of milk, a tank of gas, a pound of hamburger, a month's worth of health insurance, the cost of everything we all need to exist makes up a smaller proportion of the wealth of the rich than it does of the poor.

It would be nice if the rich were out there investing in "creating jobs", but they are not, are they? Instead, they are spending millions in smashing unions, exporting jobs, lobbying politicians and hiring illegals.

I don't blame them for wanting to pay less in taxes. No one wants to pay more taxes. But spare us the moralistic, patriotic frugal accounting bullshit because no body believes it any more.

There may be fewer rich than there used to be, but have you noticed that they are much, much richer?

This is what is meant by "transferring the wealth". It's not just the poor that are getting ripped off, or the middle class; now they're going after the well-to-do. Pretty soon the upper middle class are going to be absorbed into the ranks of the destitute. The administrative/managerial/professional/executive elite is now threatened. It's getting harder and harder to get into that little group. The peak of the histogram is shifting to the right, and climbing quickly, but at the expense of that beautiful bell-shaped curve we were striving for. You're getting what you wanted, TB, we're going back to the Gilded Age.

That's what the Republicans are really scared of. It's getting harder and harder to join The Club, isn't it? And harder to stay in it if you do make it. But the really big boys at the top just get richer and richer. And THAT is what the primary point of your initial post was really all about.

You can blame the liberals and the leftists and the Democrats all you want, but follow the money. Who is actually making out in this economy? It ain't the college perfessers and the tv anchormen and the Mother Jones columnists.

Something is happening here, and you don't know what it is. Do you, Mr Jones?

I'm going to add one more post to this thread, because I find it entirely hilarious (Let me explain before anyone flames).

Almost immediately into the question, fingers are being pointed. No real solutions are being offered, but blame is being assigned.

Why not offer solutions? I know people are going to be talking about "well, we'd be doing this, if people weren't doing that; but that's still flinging mud. Just throw stuff out there until you guys can find something you can slightly agree on?

As for my opinion on this whole mess: We've been digging the debt trench for more than a century. I'm not so pessimistic as to think it'll take just as long to fix, but I'm not so optimistic as to think just one presidential term (maybe two) will solve the thing. We just need to whittle at the thing as best as we can, and be more careful with how we get our money (offering government bonds is NOT a good idea, in my opinion - college loans of the states), and how we spend it (Spending money on things that benefit the people, or that make a profit in some way for the governments involved [without completely screwing someone over, that is], is good. Spending money on frivolous items, such as pork barrels and $600 toilet seats for the Pentagon, is bad, very bad.). It won't be easy, but if we just move along, we'll get closer to getting rid of the thing; or at least easing it tremendously). As I said to TB before, "baby steps".

Also, top comment of the day:

"No, I haven’t “won.”

I’m right. There’s a fucking difference"

Seriously, TB? XD

"Tax the rich, feed the poor, til there are no rich no more."

And as we're finding out, this creates a bit of a problem when you want to feed the poor the next day.

Look around. Nobody is blaming the poor for anything. It's the utopian "masterminds" in Washington that have been engineering this collapse for years now.

And now, "there are no rich no more," or at least not enough.

You can work the math until your calculator melts.

You've run out of other people's money. Which was the primary point of my initial post, and one that has been spectacularly evaded all the way down the thread.

The leftist pundits are telling the Democrats now they have no choice but to raise everyone's taxes. Ask not for whom the bell tolls...

That's because the analogy stunk.

If you created a graph of total taxes paid, and colored in the part paid by the wealthy, the bar would be considerably larger than the little red bar in the first graphic.

In fact, the bar for the top quintile would go 70 percent of the way down the line, even including payroll taxes.

In short, the analogy would work if 70 percent of draftees had been rich.

The rest of the crap in that post I'd expect from Bowser, not you. You know better. I don't know why you're pumping this stuff out.

"Tax the rich, feed the poor,

I'm sick and tired of the poor getting blamed for the way the economy has been mismanaged. No one left them in charge, as the rich (and their fawning sycophants)always seem to conveniently forget.
If they want to take credit for the good times, they're going to have accept responsibility when things tank.
