Some science fiction tv news... May 1, 2012 10:42 pm FrankC

Did we know Terra Nova was canceled? If so I had forgotten

Fringe – as posted below it has been renewed for a 5th and final season. Warner Brothers made a sweetheart deal with Fox to carry the final season in spite of modest ratings. A loyal fan base didn’t hurt but shows with more support have been axed in the past. It is generally thought that everyone concerned including network execs are so blown away by the quality of the show they wanted it to have a proper send up. May be a first.

Alcatraz – canceled, one of the worst Abrams efforts. It truly sucked to the point of being unwatchable.

Grimm – renewed, it’s a likable little show that has gained momentum as the season wore on.

Good news from SyFy network if we can believe it. They claim to be going back to their science fiction roots in a big way. They have released a list of 9 scripted series, including a blockbuster, Defiance, based on a MMO game.It is supposed to be an epic, gritty production along the lines of BSG.
