Lately, I've been trying to use the main boards for my Habitable Zone Experience, up until the update and Pop To The Top got trashed. I've become too used to viewing the goings on from the dashboard, simply because I can. That's because the boiler room on this ship is the most comfortable of all the HZ versions, and it is the only way I can see what the most recent comments are, when the "PTTT" feature is not working. From a moderating perspective, this is important, as it'd be easy to miss a post that needs moving. Also, I believe the spammers used this to their advantage. They always used very old posts for their messages and counted on us not seeing them. During the interval that the PTTT feature was working we had no spam activity.

Having a latest comments panel on the right side, like we had on the DamnTikiWiki, would be a nice feature. And restore PTTT if possible.

Tom's right about the "earlier" button. The only way to run the Way Back Machine is via the dashboard. And there, you can only do it by comments page or posts page. That's a feature from the ClassicZone that I miss. When I was a newbie here, I used that alot to catch up on the dynamics of the Zone, learned my way 'round the personalities and topics of the place.

I've played a bit with the blog pages, and it is a nice feature. So has VRB. I'd like to see if there is a way that any post you start on any board automatically ends up on your blog page. Right now, you can post to your blog and assign a board for it. But posting on a board is not included on the blog page, and I've not found a way to edit its catagory.

Another issue has to do with permissions. This is more of an admin question, Robert, but I'll pose it here. Is there a way to change the order of the permissions in the cascading tree?

I'd like to open the Space Board to un-registered comments, and don't want to give away too many permissions when I do so.

Otherwise, I'd like to echo the other comments in praise of the design. I like the blue, too.

I use it every time time I visit and I agree with Tom that the loss of ability to view a chrono list would be a huge thing for me. Maybe you could leave it available for those of us who use it with no admin function. Newer members and those who don't use it would not miss it

As long as the bump feature is gone, I feel like it is necessary to start a new post when the older post has scrolled down. This might not be necessary if I knew that others checked the comments dashboard

If I'm going to have any fun with this interface, I need a chronological list of posts, and a chronological list of comments. The dashboard works just fine for that, but an equivalent would be okay.

And it needs to be able to access older pages. The list of posts at the left stops at May 10. It's useful if you get here every day or so.

Like I said to Rob, it seems to have disappeared out of the underlying WordPress software.

Thanks for nice appraisal of the software. I know of many more major flaws, but it's my awful privilege as the code-monkey to be privy to all the dirty little secrets.

I'll be cutting off access to the dashboard eventually, but I'll make sure that you continue to have some kind of comment scrapbook.

When I added the headers to comments, I have to admit that I never considered the fact that the stock WordPress code in the dashboard comment system wouldn't know about it. In the case of the listing, it didn't seem to matter for something that in theory only admins should see. The headers are stored in a separate table in the database, and when I come up with the civilian-friendly comment list, I'll remember to have the code reunite the title and body.

A more serious oversight was in the comment editor. That's another stock component, but unlike the comment list, one that users would see. I'll have to fix that somehow so that you get the title along with the body. That was a big "doh!".

Much to be done, still. Thanks for all your help testing and defining and refining the software.

I'm still investigating what happened. The widget that puts out the post listings has this attribute, 'q_order_by="modified"', which is supposed to sort according to most-recent edits and comments. Not working.

I'm tinkering with this UI and designing the next with an eye to putting everything you need in the front interface, and eliminating the need to ever go into the "back office" aka dashboard. Tom's relying on what is at base an administrative feature, and it's going away. But I recognize that some of you monitor your comments obsessively, and I will make sure there's an equivalent list in the future UI.

Keep complaining. You're my QA department. I'm always tickled by the fact that the people who use the software recreationally give me far more feedback than the people who use it at work.

<p>Yes, there is no "bumping" in this dojo.</p>

It's really the only major flaw right now, at least in my view.

The comment interface is useful, but remember that it doesn't include the new headers. I still use the paragraph markers for that reason, although it takes an additional edit to add them. I'm plugging the markers in right now, but they'll disappear when I post this.
