My idea of how it should work frequently boils down to letting the user choose, and if possible, choose to have it both ways. If there were a little dropdown below the title bar of the left-column widget that let you change how it's sorted on-the-fly, you'd likely switch between views to get the full flavor of what's going on. So I'd have added not only the individual sorts as features, I've added an "uber feature": The ability to see the Zone from different angles.

To me, making it genuinely better isn't feature creep. God knows I've seen feature creep in four decades of doing this, especially in environments like corporations where the important thing is to be seen doing something. Nothing says "doing something" like adding a visible feature to a product.

Just so you know, i'm not trying to introduce feature creep. I just think it should work this way. n/t

I figure that different people will want different things from a recent-post listing. Last-modified/commented pushes active threads to the top, while last-posted emphasizes the new. Both views are meaningful.

The way to do it is to make the UI configurable. The left-column widget's the same as the widget that generates the main listing. It's highly customizable already, and to give you what you need, I need to come up with a little UI that gives you a simple subset of choices, like "last-posted" versus "last-modified" sorting on a dropdown. Plus I need to find a way to store your choice, preferably locally in your browser.

It shall be done. Eventually.

I agree, but "split bumping" might be hard to implement.
