I see no reason my camera, for example, needs a "special" USB port, other than making me buy their cables.

If I'm missing a technical reason, clue me in.

The USB is a proprietary design, so you'll need the adapter cable they supply. It's charged through the USB port, too, and comes with a little power block with a USB port on it.

No external antenna port. I wonder if there are conduction amplifiers that you put next to the unit to feed it boosted signal? If not, somebody ought to make one.

Don't think this is possible, is it?

Or for carrying around if on a longer anything. I just like to have one for the MP3 player because I get frustrated if the battery goes when I'm in the middle of a walk. With the right adapter they'll do for anything. Mine is identical to the one pictured but was $20.

Well, that answers all the questions I have. Can't think of a reason to not get one. I can only hope I'm clever enough to utilize it.

My next budget cycle. As ever, my ongoing thanks.

There are lots of Sprinters all over Europe.

They're built by Mercedes, but used to be imported and sold in the U.S. by Dodge. Now Mercedes has taken the product back. The diesel engine, like many diesels, is practically immortal, and you can find used ones for sale on E-bay and elsewhere with over 200,000 miles on them.

Most American Sprinters are cargo versions (no windows) and see use as delivery trucks or ambulances. "Bus" versions are common too, with windows and a bus-style side door.

There is a passenger version sold off the lots, but they have rows of seats that are way too bus-like for a family vehicle. Most conversions like mine are built from the cargo versions.

Until recently, the closest official Sprinter-carrying Mercedes dealer was near Sacramento. Now Behler Motors down Tully Road carries them. Go take a look!

Apparently idiotic import restrictions (see "Chicken Tax") require Mercedes to build these things (at least the cargo version) in Europe, disassemble them, ship them here, and re-assemble them in American plants. Guess how that affects the prices.
