You kidding?

The Left in this country, a small minority of Americans, is the most ideologically rigid movement there is. The slightest shift off the plantation is punished. There are no more ferocious attacks than on "progressives" who alter their views toward the right even a little.

Where were you when this was going on? When the Democratic moderates were getting the bum's rush?

I consider the perceptions of "average America", and especially the independents, the best harbinger of how the election will turn out. It's a basic fact of the democratic process that perceptions are the only thing that count: People vote based what they think they know. That I or Tom might be able to "prove" with "hard facts" and pretty graphs that they're dead wrong doesn't change a damn thing.

There are lots of perceptions that are going to influence that group beyond the nastiness of politics in Washington, with the economy and jobs at the top of the list. But there's every sign that that pivotal group is getting more and more fed up with hyperpartisanship and understand that it's contributing to all the other problems; and will start more and more to punish the politicians they perceive as putting party before country. It won't change overnight, and the effect will probably be small this election, but the trend lines are reason for guarded optimism.

Yep, I'm sorry to see Senator Snowe driven out of the Senate. That's a sign of how deep the rot goes. How many more experienced and competent legislators can the country lose before we bring the Idiocracy to pass? I hope I'm right that the tide is slowly turning.

Nice illustration of the concept. If you (your party) keeps sloughing off the ideologically impure, someday there's going to be only the One True Republican left standing.

You in the running for that singular honor?

It does not matter one iota what any of us think...that is to say the Zoners....reread the article. This is how average America perceives it.

People talkie talkie about main stream media. Yeah well...that is all there is...for the average person. It is what it is.

Any Republican who might as well be a Democrat based on their voting records and ideas.

Keep in mind that on my end of things, it's the ideas that count, not the labels.

Republicans like Snowe are very useful to Democrats. It allows them to claim bipartisan support for their policies.

Conservatives hate democracy. You might remember what blew the USSR apart was the repression of many of the constituent groups by the main, Russian, body. No compromise.

A book written long ago by a British general about WWIII and an unintended nuclear exchange pointed out that would be the result. The USSR would fall apart in a general war with the West.

This no compromise, my way or the highway, stance by Conservatives certainly follows the Christian model, find Christ or be condemned to Hell forever to rot and burn no matter what your earthly life was like. A most cruel way to approach one's fellow man.

As I said, and just demonstrated, Conservatives and Christians hate democracy, hate accommodating other groups and want everything their way and the hell with everyone else. They love being martyrs, too.

When you read these mainstream media articles, you need your handy translator:

"Moderate" Does what the Democrats want.

"Bipartisan" Does what the Democrats want.

"Reaches across the aisle" Does what the Democrats want.

"Centrist" Does what the Democrats want.

"Compromise" Do what the Democrats want.

"Extremist" Doesn't do what the Democrats want.

"Partisan" Doesn't do what the Democrats want.

"Polarized" Doesn't do what the Democrats want.

"Civility" Not opposing Democrats.

Those are just a few.

Here's another article from the same paper, discussing a Democrat who actually did step across the aisle, but not in the direction the Democrats wanted. Notice the difference?
