Days of the spinning hard drive are numbered June 8, 2012 12:18 pm TB

Amazon has a deal today where SanDisk is selling solid-state data storage drives. Same interfaces as spinning disk drives, but no moving parts.

120 GB, $99. 480 GB, $379.

Of course these are sale prices, but it wasn’t long ago that this was the price range for spinning disk drives, and I expect prices will continue to drop.

In the same way as I pronounced the doom of video stores about ten years ago, I hereby pronounce the doom of the spinning-disk drive.
