I think this how many get started on the road to a bunch of tattoos.

I think you had told me that you didn't have a tattoo but it slipped my mind and I remembered you mentioned a piercing. That made me think you might have one

I think of them more as art, like the rose you mentioned. I find female tattoos to be very attractive if they are not carried to the extreme. I knew a girl who got a job in a tattoo parlor her boyfriend owned and before you know it she was covered with them. Bat wings covered her back and just about every place on her visible (and probably not visible), body was tattooed. However, those little shoulder tats and even some of the lower back designs are pretty nice.

I have never seen a male tattoo that I thought was attractive. Funny, well done, impressive, interesting, yes, attractive, no.

One of the best male tattoos I have seen was a 3" cartoon roadrunner on the calf of a guy I knew. It was kind of neat. I also think the USMC anchor and eagle and other tats representing certain organizations are okay.

I get interested in things and spend some of my worthless time finding out what I can about the subject on the wonderful world wide web.

I have looked into several local establishments and some of them seem to be pretty good based on posted examples of their work.

I get the feeling the minimum price is around $50 for a tiny simple job. For a hundred bucks you can get a simple 3" tattoo of something they are accustomed to doing.

The tattoos of dragons, various cats, yin-yang designs, etc are probably reasonable vs some custom design you dream up.

I never realized how popular portraits are. I'll bet they are pricey.

I might be tempted to get one of those portrait jobs if I could find a nice picture of myself for them to go by.

But they're DAMN expensive. If you want a good one, you have to go to a professional, and I don't know how p[icky about requests they are.

And in case your wondering, The tattoos I had in mind are mostly literary references (<a href="http://www.bartleby.com/101/625.html" rel="nofollow">A grecian urn</a>, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_King_in_Yellow" rel="nofollow">a Celtic Cross</a>, etc.)

Hee hee...oh it has crossed my mind. I wanted a rose...my granddaughter's middle name.
I also wanted to be a tattoo artist.
It is a subculture.
For most people it is a very personal statement. The tattoos mean something very personal.
That would have been me. Any tattoo I may have gotten would have represented a time in my life or someone or something that changed my life on a certain level.
The idea of permanence was the reason I never did.
Also...what is special and dear to me I have tattooed in heart.

Have never had the police after me, but I could never understand giving them an easy way to identify me.
