who desperately doesn't want to believe that there are intelligent beings in the galaxy besides us, and that they are visiting earth.

But the UFO "evidence" is so silly, so pathetic, and so impossible to follow up on, that it infuriates us. If there were any real evidence of UFO sightings out there, it would be covered up by the level of nonsense that passes for proof. It would be impossible to tell the real from the phony.

I think this is why the reaction against the 'traditional' UFO reports is so violent and outraged from all the science weenies. Its not that we don't want to believe, its that we hate having our intelligence and our common sense insulted, and how so many otherwise good people fall for these lies and mistake skepticism for outright rejection.

It also explains our reaction to religion, and other paranormal and psychic and anomalous explanations of the world. Just because there are presents under the Christmas tree doesn't mean there has to be a Santa Claus.

Just because I don't know what something is, doesn't mean it has to be what they think it is. And when I only have the word of the witness to go on, usually someone who almost never looks at the sky...I just can't take it seriously.

Thank you ER.

Believe it or not...I an open minded skeptic....I need rational, reasonable explanations first and foremost because one of my biggest issues of all time forever and always, is having the wool pulled over my eyes.

I can handle what is....well...mostly.

That is why I posted the video. I need the Zoners input. You guys don't cut me any slack, and I depend on that.

Amateur astronomers spend a lot of time looking at the sky, and are pretty knowlegable about what they see there. They've all seen flying things they can't identify--UFOs. These are UFOs I've seen that might have been alien interstellar spacecraft, but probably weren't.

1) A half-dozen bright flashing strobe-like lights in the sky, over a period of about half an hour, on two subsequent nights. The flashes were like a bright star, and appeared to be in the same spot.
Best Possible Explanation: Solar Reflections off a geostationary satellite.

2) Two tiny, rectangular objects transiting the face of the sun's disc, about 20 seconds apart, while observing the latter with a solar filter on a small telescope.
BPE: Spacecraft maneuvering to dock.

3) A faint, round, transparent cloud roughly the size of the full moon, moving about the same speed as a satellite, seen through binoculars. The cloud was expanding, and became dimmer as I watched for several seconds until it disappeared altogether.
BPE: Orbital spacecraft venting fuel.

4) An hard, sharp echo on a surface-search radar tuned to not detect aircraft (a late 60s analog unit, so it wasn't a digital glitch), traveling about 3000 miles an hour, and approaching with a few miles of my ship. There were other witnesses, and I have heard similar reports from other sailors. There was no sonic boom.
BPE: Malfunction, or a radar jamming signal used by either our forces, or the enemy.

5) Brief, bright, naked eye, clouds at very high altitude at night, quickly dispersing.
BPE: Deliberate dispersals of wind-tracking flourescent dyes at high altitudes, or venting of fluids, by spacecraft or high-flying aircraft.

6) A pulsing, metallic, amoeba-like body shining with an orange color, seen through a small telescope at the very limit of visibility and observed for several minutes as it moved across the sky.
BPE: A tied-together cluster of aluminized mylar party balloons reflecting sodium vapor streetlights.

7) A sharp-edged, rectangular building, or bridge-like structure, of approx aspect ratio 1:4 (otherwise featureless), seen spanning a crater on the lunar terminator.
BPE: A chance illumination and cast shadow effect.

Even if that was the mother ship from Betelgeuse, there is no way to determine it from the video, or the breathless, indignant jerk providing the commentary. I see a light, a point source, nothing else, no details. It doesn't change except when the camera goes out of focus. No background is there to help put it in perspective, to help judge distance, direction, motion, angular velocity, nada. I can't tell if the object is moving, or if the camera is. All I get is this idiot self-righteously saying "I told you so, it's a UFO." All I can say with any amount of certainty is that it is probably not a hoax. A hoax would at least have some interesting details. This is just a featureless light, one bit of data. And I mean "bit" in the computer science sense of the word: a "one" as opposed to a "zero". The smallest possible amount of information.

I can't tell you what it is, but I can speculate. It is probably an ordinary object or event that the observer has misidentified as an extraordinary one. Or it might be an unusual but natural thing that is not often seen, like swamp gas or ball lightning, a secret military test or a mirage. If it isn't that, it might be a ghost, a demon, the spirit of god, a time traveler, or maybe a spacecraft from another world. You can't guess from what's on that video.

So I guess it is a UFO. But remember, just because you can't tell exactly what something is, doesn't mean it has to be anything interesting.
