You directed attention away from fact that Holmes didn’t buy the AR15 through the internet or a catalog. It’s not possible.
As I read your link, I wondered if you had actually read it yourself. Your post was about some sort of anonymous, nefarious network of gun runners that requires using special software and higher level of internet savvy to navigate. The sad thing is, Holmes could have bought the weapon in a private sale, without a background check. In this case it wouldn’t have mattered. But your smoke bomb ruined our (yours and mine) chance to talk about it. I refuse to take the blame here. Your post was destructive to the conversation.
What I wanted to draw attention to was an elected official and a news anchor icon displaying such wanton ignorance of the law it makes you wonder if they were actually clueless.
All we can do as a society is write a body of law and try to enforce it. There will always be criminals but as long as the majority obey the law, there will be the order that allows us to prosper as a country.
