Before my back surgery, I was searching for answers for the pain and a Neurosurgeon told me he didn't think surgery was indicated and prescribed a medicine called Baclofen.

I was taking the medicine for a couple of weeks, with no apparent help, when I went to get an epidural treatment which did give me some relief for a couple of weeks.

When they were prepping me for the procedure they took my pulse and told me my heart rate was about 35 bpm. Normal for me is at least 65-70 and anything below 40 is a risk. Turns out one of the rare side effects of the med was bradycardia, slowing of the heart.

They made me wait for 2 hours to see if it speeded up and it did so all was well at the end.

Needless to say, I stopped taking the med and found a surgeon that did think the surgery would help, and it did.

My god, I hope y'all are not as bored by this post as I was when I reread it. I guess it is a hopeless symptom of age to blather on about our failing bodies.

The medicine. As luck would have it I had eaten very little, so as I re introduced the items back into my diet ( at first I thought it was peanuts) I would tell everyone and write down the time I ate it.

I am absolutely terrified to try new medicine. I am allergic to penicillin too.

It was 6:00 p.m, Saturday, December 2002 or maybe 03 My son and husband just got home . I took my arthritis pill Arthrotec, like I had many times before.
By 6:15 I had an insatiable itching in my groin area. It only grew worse and by 6:16 I had to go sit down because I was really beginning to get spacey. By 6:17ish I felt a deep resonating thump from inside my body... and the physical sense I got dropped me to my knees. I was physically unable to stand up. I know now that was my blood pressure dropping. The tops of my feet were on fire from itching now. My husband asked if he needed to call an ambulance as he had no idea what to do. He would try to hold me, but I had to lay on the floor otherwise I felt I couldn't breathe.
Automatically I said yes.

My blood pressure dropped to 60/0 and the paramedics refused to tell me what it was when I asked. I never lost consciousness...so although compelled to keep my eyes closed, I was aware of everything. Two IVs were started, and I was taken to the hospital.

The itching subsided. I had abdominal cramps, but other than that I was calm, but mostly peaceful.

I hope I cross over that way.

I have been in some fairly violent car crashes with injuries but no fatalities, and some near crashes that were probably closer calls than the actual crashes, I have had loaded and cocked guns held to my head and knives touching my throat, by dangerous, unstable people.

If that qualifies yes, but I never considered it a brush with death at the time and the experiences didn't have any instant impact. Long term, I believe they contributed to changing me.

I would consider a brush with death something like being revived from drowning or a flat line. Maybe recovery from virulent cancer, or surviving a deadly wound, or surviving a plane crash. I have never been seriously wounded. The most serious injury I have ever had was a shoulder stress fracture from slipping on the ice.

I had a few close calls out on the water, but I was either too busy or too stupid to realize at the time I was actually in real danger.
