		<description>I don&#039;t own a cellphone.  Society is gradually removing me from its embrace.  In another 10 years I will be a hermit in the desert.

That aside, I attended the Deep Impact planetfest and the one for the first MER.  They were both amazing (though Deep Impact dragged on for hours due to delays and some became a bit cranky... can&#039;t remember what could have caused the delays, now.)</description>

I think what makes it so special is the knowledge that you&#039;re on the end of the same long electronic leash as the scientists, and you get a greater sense of participation knowing that you&#039;re seeing the data come in at the same time as them. It&#039;s so unlike those contrived PR events that NASA does to support manned space flight, where you can&#039;t really hide from the knowledge that there are astronauts and then there are the rest of us. At a Planetfest, you&#039;re one of the gang.

Expect to treasure the experience, alcaray.
