No Democrat could have done it, they would have been condemned as traitors for even suggesting such a thing.

Maybe its going to take a Republican businessman to bring socialized medicine to the USA. Let's face it, Mitt has been there before. It's not like he doesn't understand the concept...hell, he practically invented it.

BTW, is this the same King David Hotel in Jerusalem that was bombed by Jewish terrorists on 22 Jul, 1946?
The Hotel was the British Administrative HQ for Palestine. 96 people were killed, and 41 injured. The attack was carried out by Menachem Begin and masterminded by the Irgun, a Zionist paramilitary organization and the precursor to today's right-wing Likud party. Even most modern Israelis recoil at much of what happened back in those days.

I can't believe any American political hopeful, even one fully sympathetic to Israel, would be so inept as to allow himself to be manipulated into being part of the symbolism of that time. It will be absolutely impossible for a President Romney to negotiate or broker any future deal with Palestinians if they see him as implicitly approving of those events, over and above his unfortunate remarks about inferior Palestinian culture and of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. He has been deftly painted into a corner by his "friend" Netanyahu, and will effectively have his hands tied if he tries to swing any Mid-East solution that favors American interests over Israeli ones.

You're right, the man has a petty shopkeeper mentality and is profoundly ignorant of history, politics or diplomacy, or even of his own country's best interests, indeed, of anything except his own parochial business activities and the apocalyptic fantasies of his knuckle-dragging messianic rural constituency.
