Romney is the wrong man at the wrong time for that.

Of course he’s been audited. He has done nothing illegal. But the rules are set up so that people with his resources can pay no taxes legally.

Here’s the rest of our leadership. Do you think a Speaker of the House (third in line for the presidency) or Senate Majority Leader should have the same transparency? If not, why not?

That first sentence is still a load of Democratic red herrings. “This is all the conservatives are talking about” would be the meme there, avoiding the subjects conservatives and Republicans are really talking about.

Good God, activate your brain for once. Do you think any well-known wealthy person could fire off ten years of huge income and zero tax liabilities without at least drawing a major IRS audit? Or more than one? Some well-known conservatives get hit by an audit almost every year.

Romney’s last two returns (available online) show three million in taxes for each year. If he was so good at ducking taxes, why did he stop?

Reid is running on sheer inertia at this point. He’s got no way to back out of this.

As long as Romney refuses to release his taxes this one will not go away. The longer he waits, the more suspicious people will get. And it is not irrelevant. If Romney indeed did not pay any taxes for a decade while making hundreds of millions of dollars, it shows a need to reform the tax code.

And don’t blame the Democrats. A lot of Republicans despise Romney because he is too moderate (God, I love that phrase!). I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if Reid was tipped off on Romney’s potential tax embarassments by some conservative, just in time for the GOP convention, so they could replace him with a more suitably loony toons candidate.

Could Paul, or even Gingrich be behind this? They are not only political rivals of Romney, they have personal grudges against him, and each probably feels he has a chance to take his place in Tampa.

So you keep right on making indignant excuses for these knee-walking turkeys, TB. This massage may have a happy ending yet.
