Last night I tested the registration page. For the first time in my regular testing, I was able to get past a cookie failure. I used my laptop on the wireless PodNetWork and Chrome. Was informed I'd get a password in my e-mail; which I still have not recieved. However, my new user, Oblate, is included in the User List panel. I can change the password there, if need be.

So like we experienced on the DamnTikiWiki, the emailer is not working. I'd like to hear the results of other's experiments with registration.

The thread format is antiquated and is seldom used for forums with a large membership.

Cutting edge software is based on individual posts with a quote feature to reply to a specific OP or reply.

The software is rich with features including search function, display posts you have participated in, display posts since your last visit, stats on number of reads, like options.

I am not sure what is going on with Robert. He is our friend and I am satisfied with whatever he wants to do as long as he is accessible to the members and will respond to questions.

If he is bored or has health problems, he should consider hosting the board and turn the thing over to someone else as it was turned over to him.

Frankly, I think wordpress is excellent blog software and poor forum software. This has become obvious by the apparently tedious coding required to fit the square peg into the round hole.

We should take a look at the software linked below. I belong to a forum that uses it and it is great. There is some start-up cost involved and a small hosting fee if Robert wants out entirely. i am pretty sure the cost of the software would not be over $500 for all the bells and whistles. I would be happy to fund up to half of this if everyone gets on board. The advertised price is $175 but I am sure there may be other costs involved in getting started.

If there is no interest in switching to forum software, I am willing to help in any way, if my help is wanted. I am good with software and finding the various switches, but I might get into it and get out as fast as possible if it is as complicated as it seems to make seemingly simple changes like tearing down walls and adding an underline to links

With simple HTML, you could store your files on your own computer and run them offline with a browser. This way you could make changes and test them before uploading to a host.

I don't recognize most of what's behind Wordpress.

I wonder how much trouble it would be (if it's even possible) to open a mirror sight just for testing changes?

I have no idea how much these websites cost.

<p>Open boards</p> have always been my desire, since the Zone That Was, the beautiful HZ-Nexus, crashed; and we sought refuge aboard the DamnTikiWiki. I did what I could do there to open up some of the boards to the public.

I'm more than happy to accept your (and others) offer to help. Let's wait for Robert to chime in.

It's nice to know you feel the same about opening up this place.

I withdrew a bid a long time ago to be part of the team. It seemed like the less people monkeying with things the better it would be. I do have some qualifications and would be happy to help if I can.

I really don't know what Robert has in mind. I'd like to know. But I admit my post was a little melodramatic. Sometimes that's the way to get results.

<p>Has anybody tried modifying their browser's security settings (just for this site)?</p>

I used to have the board on "trusted" level, which deals with many cookie problems, but I think that was the Wiki version.

<p>I run my blog and webpage on Wordpress, but it's all pure vanilla and off-the-shelf stuff.</p>

I'm screwed on Wordpress any time I have to get into actual code. Useless for this board, I'm afraid.
