In 2008, a moderate, widely-respected Republican war hero with vast political experience was defeated by a black newcomer with a goofy foreign name. GWB poisoned the waters for a long time. And his party appears to pretend he never existed. He isn't even going to the Republican Party Convention. Like I've said before, after the rehabilitation and success of Clinton, GWB was supposed to be the GOP's Great White Hope, the new Reagan. Instead, he turned out to be the new Hoover. Right from the start, the Right set about making sure Obama would never be the new FDR. But after he lost the war AND the economy only the most fanatical could still support GWB.
