And I always thought Dubya was a profoundly ignorant and inept man, but not necessarily an evil one, in fact, I thought he was basically a nice guy I wouldn't mind having the proverbial beer with. It was his evil counselors, Cheney and Rumsfeld, who I loathed, but at least I respected them. Even Nixon had a sort of cunning and instinctive political skill you couldn't help but admire even while you hated him. But the Right feels about Obama exactly the same way the Nazis felt about Jews, or the way I feel about palmetto bugs; irrational, pathological, malignant hate, hatred so powerful they don't even bother to hide it; hatred so enormous they are not even aware how obvious, and disturbing, it is to those who are forced to witness it. We also know that hate was already there, it was obvious even before he was nominated for the Presidency. Conservatives hated Clinton and Hillary, and Ted Kennedy, and FDR, but I've never seen them hate like this. Its an irrational, unreasoning hatred, so extreme that if I hated that much I would be afraid, and ashamed, to let anyone know it. If you can't see that, talk to someone who supported Obama and now, for whatever reason, has changed his mind. The ex-Obama supporter may be disappointed, may feel he made a mistake, that he misunderstood or overestimated the man. He may even feel like a fool for having voted for him. We are all after all, capable of changing our minds. But from the dissolusioned supporter you would not get this kind of pure reptilian hatred.
