A chance to make your case before a national audience and you drag out garbage like that.

Would anyone in their right minds want these people negotiating for them? Of course not. There are some very bright, very smooth people out there. friendly, understanding who would make mincemeat out of Eastwood and anyone who hired him.

Knowing how dishonest Romney, Ltd. (very Ltd,) is, knowing what clowns he has representing him, other countries will chew him to shreds. It's a shame, too, because at one time he seemed like a pretty decent fellow.

I can see where you're coming from upon re-reading my original remarks. But remember, I did preface them with admiration for his career accomplishments.

And you will recall his "Halftime In America" speech was criticized as being too "pro-Obama" by conservatives, even though he never mentioned Obama or any politics at all.

It's not Clint I'm afraid of, either the "Man with No Name" of the Spagetti Westerns, or the burned-out gunfighter of "The Unforgiven".

Buck explained it much better than I did:

But his skit, as I pointed out in the OP, is representative of the the entire GOP campaign because they have spent so much time arguing with a make believe president they have created.

The frustration you see on the left is rooted in the massive distortions and outright lies coming from the right. Running the range of Ryan’s fib about the auto plant closure, to the big ugly scary lies about medicare, to the endless nutcase conspiracies.

I take it you believe his remarks were scripted and pre approved? That he wasn't shooting from the hip?

The mold you tried to pound him into didn't fit a pro-choice, anti war, gay marriage supporter.

Quit trying to use him as a poster child for all you see wrong with the GOP.

You've got to ask yourself one thing, would a hater deliver the "Halftime in America" message?

I still look forward to watching him act, seeing his films and hearing his jazz.

Its about the political hacks that tried to exploit him and instead wound up embarassing him, and themselves. And its about a political philosophy that has perverted and abused all the good and worthwhile that there is in Conservative thought to fan and provoke the fear and hatred of a populace that is afraid of the future and the uncertain times that lie just ahead.

The world is changing whether we like it or not, much of it is due to our mistakes, both partisan and shared, much of it is out of our control and beyond our imagining. We all played a role getting into this mess, it wasn't an alien conspiracy or a committee of traitors. But the faction that has taken over the Republican Party, the party of Eisenhower, Rockefeller, Dole, Lugar, and yes, even Goldwater and to some extent Reagan, is not concerned with curbing the excesses of the Democrats, or in adhering to moderation, thrift and traditional values. What they want to do is prepare for themselves a world where they will continue to prosper extravagantly no matter how much the rest of the nation has to suffer. They want to make sure they profit until the very end.

The new Conservatism is about exploiting the ugliest and most intolerant strains in the American character in order to enforce a hegemony of power dominated by a commercial class with no sense of civic responsibility or noblesse oblige. And they will stop at nothing to get their way.

These oligarchs and plutocrats don't want to steer the ship into calmer waters, they just want to make sure they have guaranteed seats on the lifeboats. And they'll make whatever promises they feel are necessary, to whoever is willing to listen to them, and break them as soon as its convenient.

This has nothing to do with Clint.

Very good read.

Bt's clear to me that you'll probably never see through the fog of your prejudgment to give Clint a fair shake. Enough people appreciated what he said and how he said it.And it didn't whip us into a frenzy.

So where's the devastating insight? The blinding epiphany? The end-of-days revelation?

I'm waiting, but all I see is an empty chair.
