I thought you were talking about the people running the campaign.

The kind of people who squelched Palin, and are running Romney through the hoops. The ones I mentioned in the response to Buck.

Not the standard Koch conspiracy theories. I’m beginning to realize how effortless it is to be liberal.

This week has been a disaster for your candidate, what with the child molestation charges, embezzling from the convent coming to the surface, and it turning out he isn’t a lawyer, didn’t go to college, flunked out of high school and has 4 wives. Hasn’t paid child support for years.”

“Harry, I’d like to say that this campaign is about the person who is worried about their job, who is worried about losing their home, who is worried about the quality of education. This campaign is about fiscal responsibility, protecting the Homeland and giving every man, woman and child a chance. This campaign is about dignity.”

“Well, Bill, your guy just filed for bankruptcy after using campaign funds to pay his mistress’ apartment and your accountant turning him in. How does that apply to “fiscal responsibility”?

“Harry, we believe in the sanctity of marriage, in the idea of one God who loves us all, forgives us all, and let’s us move on. My candidate made a couple of choices he deeply regrets. If God forgives him, who are you or anyone else to condemn him?”

TB has always done that when he can’t answer a question or the question doesn’t have a flattering answer. He just seems to be getting worse.

And one can’t blame him. Most of us allow ourselves to get sidetracked, off on one of his tangents, and he’s won. Doesn’t have to look at the hard stuff.

In that day “welfare” was truly a safety net, not a way of life.

You are right, we can’t afford this many people living off the government. That includes the military, the mercenaries, the bankers and poor people who don’t work.

The reality is we don’t need the number of poor, unproductive people we have, we don’t need the poor, unproductive military we have, and we for sure don’t need the rich unproductive bankers we have.

And we can’t afford to take care of people because we’ve given away most of our resources to private industry, where they are used for the benefit of the wealthy.

George Romney's family were Mormon refugees from the Mexican Revolution in 1910, leaving their property behind and fleeing to Texas. They were on relief in El Paso for a few months before Romney's father found work in Los Angeles as a carpenter. Anyone thinking this is relevant to the current welfare state discussion has brain damage. I already know Stewart has brain damage. Anyway, I found the rest of the biography to be interesting reading. Others might, too.
