In any case: at that time, filibusters were evil and powerful and wrong. Now that Republicans do it without any restraint, and at record numbers by a wide, wide margin, then you say they are powerless and unimportant.

The “nuclear option” was a mechanism that would allow Republicans to override a Democratic filibuster without the 2/3 vote. This was back in 2005, when Democrats were filibustering Bush appointees. Interesting how obstruction of a President back then was considered a high moral calling.

The comments from Democrats I quoted above were a response to this threat. Democrats glorifying the filibuster as the preserver of democracy. Of course, this was back when it worked for the Democrats and not against them. Situational ethics.

Filibusters stop legislation from getting voted on. A minute ago, you were up in arms about Democrats using “the nuclear option” (which they never did, by the way). That “nuclear option” was a filibuster. You need to decide whether filibusters are scary tools of the democrats or if they don’t matter. Talk about lost in the weeds…

For every cloture, there are more filibusters. I’d love to show you statistics on filibusters because that would look even more disgusting, but the senate does not keep them for some reason.

You don’t own something when anything you desire can be stopped at will by your opponents. You can’t even work out joint legislation when the other side refuses to work with you.

The Dream Act is not law. It will require a different congress to make it so.
