It wasn’t a trillion, but it was over $800 billion. It wasn’t the first week of his administration, it was February 17.

And it passed with no Republican votes in the House, and three in the Senate. One of which later switched his party to Democrat.

And yes, it was money we didn’t have, and had to be borrowed or printed.

We’re on the Flame board, and the way this thread is developing is why I don’t think we should start threads here. The old way was to wait until a thread on a serious board went plasma, then move it here. Or when two people got personal and needed to slug it out, they’d come here for a simple face-to-face flame war. But often a thread preemptively started in Flame takes a constructive turn. Seems silly to me. Rob could have posted in Current Events.

I’m not particularly in the mood to flame you, SDAI-Tech1. I might call you on the claim that Obama spent a $trillion in his first week of office. And the melodramatic hype about hellbent governments and printing up trillions every day and so forth. And I’d keep drilling into what I think is really the fundamental thing here: Views about money and how it works. But there’s nothing flamish about that.

If you recall, I said at the time that the Bush “rebate” was stupid, too. And you’ll note it didn’t work either.

There’s a long list of people who contributed to the housing bubble. Greenspan is on it.

You can't be this obtuse.

The money for this Peter/Paul gag has to come from somewhere. A) If it comes from the producers you're trying to support, it doesn't work. See the bucket/hose analogy. B) If it comes from printed or borrowed money, with the resulting destruction of the value of the dollar, it doesn't work either. "Simple." Cripes.

When people get more money they spend some of it on things they would not have purchased otherwise. (Again, I apologize for stating the obvious.)

Demand for a product goes up as more people want to buy it. (I apologize for the preceding tautology!)

When demand for a product increases the producers of that product hire more staff. Also, people looking for a new business to start, usually consider starting one to produce a produce a product for which demand increases. (This is such simple stuff, I am embarrassed to state it!)
