Too crowded.

I live in a duplex. The houses near me are less than fifty feet away. Too much chance of plinking something I don't want to plink.

That, and the chance of hitting a raccoon's eye or something. I'm no sharpshooter. You can do damage, even with a BB gun.

In a roomier neighborhood, with someone who's good with a gun, it would probably work.

My grandfather lived on a farm. He used a .22 rifle. There is no discouraged varmint like a dead discouraged varmint.

There's no chance of injury or property damage, and no alarming sound, and even the raccoon will not be hurt, although he will quickly come to associate your property with Vengeance From The Sky. One of my fondest memories of youth was watching my grandfather using my Daisy to wage war on the neighborhood mutts who tried to use his lawn as their personal toilet.

He aimed for the genitals, painful, but no permanent injury, and it worked every time. Once touched, they never came back. And his aim was true.

Many of the reviews say that after they followed the directions for the type of animal they were after it worked splendidly.

I'm going to get two for the RV. Let people think their picture is being taken.

It keeps them out of the pond.

It doesn't seem to discourage them permanently, although to be fair I don't have an effective way of telling in a little black and white movie if it's the same raccoon every time.

I have an automatic yard light.

My IR camera shows that it doesn't bother them a bit, and I doubt that flashing it would.

The squirter seems to work okay.

I just ordered two of them.
I have racoons, skunks, deer, coyotes and bears...and who knows what else and I don't want them eating my garden next spring.

I've been thinking of getting chickens as well but don't want to bring in the predators. We have really big cats out here, bobcats and even a mountain lion. The paw tracks are really big and my neighbours had a black panther on their porch a couple of years back.

If things get worse, I always have my Mossberg...
