But we must press on, any failure to respond and we play into the fascist narrative, that we are weak, effete, cowardly liberals who can barely feed, much less defend, ourselves.

What we have here is the manic response of a decadent and dying culture. They know their world is fading, largely due to their own arrogance, waste and neglect, and they are desperate to find someone or something to blame for their loss of power and prestige. They seek scapegoats, both to blame for their troubles and to justify their own impotence. And they cloak themselves in an ethos and mythology of morality and virtue.

When we refuse to conform to the stereotypes they have devised for us, they are furious. They must come up with vast international conspiracies and domestic treachery to explain why they are in eclipse. They don't understand that we are working stiffs just like they are. I guess they just don't like to see themselves as working stiffs. They are too creative, too innovative, too entrepreneurial. If it only weren't for our obstruction, they coulda been contendas.

The election hurt them deeply. Not just because they lost, everyone loses battles, but because they never saw it coming, they have been so busy congratulating each other on their self-evident exceptionalism they have not noticed no one else is listening to them, or believes their fantasies, and that the real world shares little resemblance to their perception of it.

They actually felt their enemies were so corrupt, and their own values so irresistible, that they would break like a tsunami of righteousness over the shores of their rivals. But they have no rivals because no one really wants to be like them. It didn't quite work out the way they expected. It's not that they refuse to admit it, they can't even see it.

So they have little choice but to come here because without our acknowledgement of their error, no one would know they were there at all.
They are invisible, pointless little men. I feel sorry for them.

On second thought. Maybe we should just refuse to play their game any longer. We have already demonstrated that we have nothing to fear from their inanities, and the election has shown them they have peaked as a cultural force. No one buys their snake oil any more. Maybe we should just refuse to accept their challenges at all. Let them just talk to themselves--they seem to be very good at doing that.

It was really cool to be able to prove that the paranoid assertions were just paranoid assertions (as in the polling fiasco). I wish there were some way to prove this other stuff rather than being dragged into neverending arguments of righteous justification. I'm just tired of it.

Oh so many differences. Which differences do you want us to look at?
