I watch his show frequently, and although I rarely agree with his analyses, he's free of fanaticism and BS. I also like Michael Steele,
David Frum, and Steve Schmidt for the same reasons. They are genuine conservatives, but they are not afraid to give credit to liberals, or scorn to Republicans, where its merited. I find them of value to help me ID liberal BS. (Yes, there IS liberal BS, its just not as coordinated, concentrated, refined or outrageous as the conservative variety).

There's a lot of Republicans, if not most, who know they need to get their comrades out of the echo chamber, but they are being systematically driven out of the GOP by the highly organized and disciplined Tea Party faction. Perhaps the events of the last week, and the fibrillation now afflicting the "Conservative Entertainment Industry" will have some effect.

If their leaders say that freedom exists in Iraq, bigawd freedom exists in Iraq. If their leaders say suicide bombers do so because they hate freedom, then they hate freedom. If their leaders say we don't torture, then we don't torture. They have nothing to compare their leaders statements with reality. It's just not there.

If their leaders say the polls are lying, the polls are lying. If their leaders say Democrats won't vote in bad weather, then Republicans will prevail. If their leaders say that asking what a leader reads is an unfair question, then the vicious liberal media sandbagged their innocent candidate. (Who should be expected to read??!!)

If their leader stands before an audience and says "We're going to the White House!", they pack their knives and forks for the Big Feast. They just believe it.

If the DoD says Jessica White fought until she ran out of ammunition, then bigawd she was killing infidels until she could kill no more. Same with Pat Tillman - he died protecting his squad members, sacrificed himself so that others might live.

It's not simply gullible, not simply stupid. It's unfathomable, an inability to process that which is uncomfortable. As a child iodine might have helped, but it's too late now. They simply cannot compare reality with what they are told by their leaders.
