Preparing meals, figuring out what to get people, how much to spend on each, then finding and buying presents, wrapping presents, and then when they are unwrapped come the apologies:
“If you don’t like it you can take it back.” “I guessed at the size, you can take it back if it doesn’t fit.” “I hope you can use it, if you can’t you can take it back.” “I didn’t know what to get you, you can take it back for something you can use.”
Visiting with relatives, hearing about the new cars, motorcycles, promotions, kids, remodeling, jerks as bosses, jerks as contractors, jerks as neighbors.

And then the clean-up. I used to always do dishes as a way to avoid the post-prandial drunken messes.

Big parts are enjoyable. Seeing relatives, seeing old friends is invaluable.

I have developed what I think is a great system for presents the last few years. I buy a bunch of Christmas sacks, a bunch of 2# loaves of the best Tillamook cheddar cheese, a box of crackers and a package of smoked salmon. I have a bunch of these sacks and pass them out to folks. They are always appreciated, cost about $20 bucks apiece, and are appropriate for even the wealthiest of my friends.

No worries, no apologies, no wrapping, no fuss. Carry a pen and fill names in on the cards I’ve attached and I’m set.

Can’t be done. How many Americans attend a Christian church twice a month? How many tithe? How many give a rip about the date of the birth of Christ?

In polls, how many say Christian because they think they should, without any tangible demonstration of that?

Christianity, along with the European Caucasian, is being phased out of relevance in the US, and there really is no excuse for Christmas without celebrating many, many more religious feasts.

Thanksgiving is a good one, though. Except for the Native Americans.

As for me, I’m not in favor of ANY holidays being on the calendar. Hell, I don’t have to go to work, and I want everything open 24/7/365 so I can spend my welfare loot whenever I feel like it.

…is how I drove to work one December morning and saw some of the parishioners at a local church hanging a huge banner, visible from the street, advertising their annual Christmas Pageant. In big bold letters, and decorated with images of holly, mistletoe and candy canes, were the words “Welcome Satan’s Little Helpers.” I wished them a helluva Merry Christmas.
