She's been quiet since a back channel discussion some time ago, resurected recently (this time with a space in her name) in response to your request for a test of registration. Doubt we'll see much of her in the future.

As puppets go, she was fun...

Months ago I tried to open the Space Board to Non-Registered posting, as an effort to encourage more participation. If you log out, you'll see that a comment window will open, but there is no post button at the bottom. I looked around for a toggle to fix it, but never found it. Folks seemed in favor of the idea at the time; but I'm happy to revisit this dicussion about non-regestered commenting (not posting) on the Space Board.

Just something I've been thinking about for years, and given my ability to procrastinate, probably not something I'll dedicate much time to. A while back I placed anyone who hadn't posted on the WP phase to "subscriber"; but if they showed up at the air lock, I up-graded them.

Any of those that I suspect were just taking advantage of the holes in the TikiWiki I'll send to the No Role status. When I've the time.

Happy to help out, Robert.

Yeah, test account. Left it open in a window, forgot about it, and when I went to reply on that thread, I used Ngu-Guy without realizing it.

Darn, I thought the name "Some (New) Guy) would be a clue.

Please be very careful deleting accounts. If you're not absolutely sure that an account is bogus, it'd be better to change the role to "--No role for this site--", which effectively neuters the account: No posting, and comment forms lack a Post button.

This will preserve entry for some people who had trouble setting up an account using their preferred (and familiar) user name, and resorted to trying to set up another account with a different name. And in all cases it keeps an email address on file that we can use to announce a future hypothetical rebooting. There's nothing like sending out an email that says "refresh your account or we close it" to separate the good email addresses from the bad.

Thanks for your help, podrock.

Another disconnect: I sent Ngu-Guy over to check it out, and the post button appeared at the bottom of every comment form, both direct to the post and comment-on-comment.

This precise behavior has shown up on the U site, and it traces back to the access control system. If a user doesn't have the 'post_comment' permission, it doesn't suppress the whole form, only the post button. Silly, I know, and will be fixed. So the question is, is there a pattern in which users experience this problem?

If abused, I will delete those accounts. Blocking IP's is Robert's call.

Robert and I have a handfull of doppelgangers, which we use to evaluate different user permissions. When I use them, I usually delete their experimental posts quickly.

We've also a population of registered users that were not from the Zone That Was, but spammers who showed up during the DamnTikiWiki Era, and have never posted here. I may clear a bunch of those out. Currently, they have a low level of user permissions.

I'd like to have a way of allowing oldtimers to contact us if they have forgotten their old passwords, or never recieved one when we jumped ship to the Damn TikiWiki.
