…before registration, we had to enter our names everytime we posted. It was no big deal, and we often had fun with it. When I was acting as moderator, I could use “mod pod”, or “moderating podrock”, or some other variation to indicate I was acting in an official capacity. Names were often fluid, changing over time. Scott Evil became The Poster Formally Known as Scott Evil (TPFKASE). “R.L.” became “ARRELL”, or various re-arrangements of his real life name after he was cyber stalked. His brother morphed into “The Annomalist Eating Yeti”, then just “Yeti”. TB stopped using his real name. Jody started posting using another name, which I remember but won’t repeat in case she wants to keep that secret.

I’ve a couple of screen names to test various levels, like “Rita Book” (whose password is also known to Robert and Frank), “Ruxton” (who is rarely used), and “oblate” and “oblate sphereoid” (which are deleted after testing).

But on the Classic Zone, down at the bottom, was the IP address, so those paying attention always knew who was who. Now, that info is not as easily available. Even so, if I wanted, I could post under another name using another IP, since I have a handfull of those at my disposal, especially when I travel.

Multiple names don’t bother me as much as it does some, but I make it a point to keep to “podrock” to avoid confusion and hostility. there are times I’ve considered morphing to another name; but have resisted because this name has a history and since I have an official role here, I want old timers who show up at the door to recognize me.

Thanks for testing the registration process, I’m glad we have that figured out, hopefully we’ll get some fresh blood ’round here. And thanks for owning up to GothGirl. Your writing skills could not be disguised even in drag.

I guess if I had picked some other name, something like “Effenjee”, (f***n’ Gnu guy) no one would have even noticed.
