And those centers of gravity interact with each other however slightly. And each center of gravity can be regarded as a point. Without other forces acting, all matter would collapse into a single point. Might take a long, long time, but would happen.

And God help anything which gets near a black holes center of gravity, because the two centers of gravity will attract. And the black holes center of gravity, being so much stronger than anything else in the near region, will suck in other matter. The discrete centers of gravity will attract and meet the black hole halfway, proportionally speaking.

What it looks like from the outside, even though there are two objects meeting each other, is that the black hole is sucking in the neighboring matter.

So, it may not be "sucking", where one object is acting upon another unilaterally. It certainly is attracting other matter and because the masses are so disproportional, it looks as if it is a sucking phenomenum.

Since in any sucking contest with ordinary matter the black hole wins, the black hole survives and grows, even though it moves toward other matter the way the Earth moves toward a dropped penny, in such an unequal contest "suck" seems to be an appropriate description.

It's a bit like a kindergartener playing football against San Francisco. As the pro players move toward the kid, so does the kid move toward the pros. And when the kid was asked afterward about the game, he replied, "It sucked!"

Y'know wha Im sayin?
