But to say (as so many conservatives do) “nothing can be done” is a rather straightforward acceptance of gun violence. And I think ER is quite correct in suggesting that this acceptance is born of some truly horrifying motivations.

You insult my intelligence by trying, once again, to dangle the shiny yet slight statistical drop in the rate of deaths due to firearms, hoping I’ll forget that the United States has the twelfth highest such rate in the world.

There’s obviously plenty of room, let alone need, to do something. The fact that so many developed nations which closely share our values manage to achieve much lower death rates is testimony to that.

Talk to me again when we’ve reduced the rate of deaths due to firearms in American to the twelfth lowest. Until then, I don’t see what you can contribute when all you’re trying to do is prevent discussion of the problem in the first place.
