I'm sure it was awesome viewed by a telescope. My Dad talked about Halley's all of his life, It made a passage in 1910 before he was born and it must have been quite a show, based on his second hand impressions. It came next in 86 after he died. And while we are waiting a year for Comet Ison to arrive here at earth we should get some pics from Curiosity as it passes near Mars. You can bet a lot of space orbiting instruments will be focused on Ison also. I wonder if Cassini will get a opportunity.
