I picked it out on one occasion but I have no doubt it was unnoticed by most folks on the planet. I'm sure it was awesome viewed by a telescope.

My Dad talked about Halley's all of his life, It made a passage in 1910 before he was born and it must have been quite a show, based on his second hand impressions. It came next in 86 after he died.

He would have been disappointed.

But through binoculars, and not as I'd hoped. Not long after was Comet West (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comet_West)which was quite pretty, but very late at night. I set an alarm to see it, and it was so cool I woke the entire family. At first they wanted to kill me, but once they saw it all was forgiven.

I agree it was a nice comet, but it was hyped to be much brighter.

As far as Cassini goes, I'm not sure the comet would look like much that far from the sun. Curiosity might get some good shots.

Hope it's not another "Kohoutek."

Two comets in one year visible to the naked eye. And while we are waiting a year for Comet Ison to arrive here at earth we should get some pics from Curiosity as it passes near Mars. You can bet a lot of space orbiting instruments will be focused on Ison also. I wonder if Cassini will get a opportunity.

Comet 2011 L4 Panstarrs will be shining bright in early March around .5 mag.

Just can't get this image I generated to work here. Works when I copy/paste into a new tab.

Sure hope Ison stays together as it gets close to the Sun. Amazing this comet is coming from so far away and has taken millions of years to come by our way.
