Dr Who Revisited January 28, 2013 6:50 pm FrankC

BBC America revisits the old Drs. under this title. It must not be a regular series since I can’t find any, other than the one I watched last night.

It was one of the 1962 originals with the Dr played by an old dude about my age, but not nearly as charismatic and sexy. Apparently in the beginning the Dr was almost a supporting character to the companions, (a couple of married school teachers who were dynamic hero types).

In any case I thoroughly enjoyed the episode. It took place in the time of the Aztecs. The companions wanted to change history by stopping Aztec blood sacrifice and thereby save their civilization. The Dr warned them against it and they failed in the end.

Of course the effects and overall production were as you would expect but the story (script) would hold up today without edit.

The doddering old Doctor, was in the beginning, apparently not an alien with two hearts but only an old scientist accompanied by his granddaughter as well as the 2 companions. He was more like the Wizard of Oz than the Doctor we know and love.

If you are a Doctor Who fan, as I am, I recommend it highly.

P.S. Further searching reveals that this will be a monthly BBC offering in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Dr Who.
