Robert Silverberg May 4, 2013 5:53 pm ER

Robert Silverberg is my favorite SF author. I don’t know if he’s still working, or even if he is still alive, but I was profoundly moved by his writing, and over the next few days I will be providing you with some pocket reviews of some of my favorites. Silverberg was an enormously prolific writer. He wrote everything, juveniles, soft porn, history (he is a recognized expert on the Byzantine Empire) and some great science fiction. He also wrote a lot of purely commercial stuff, some of it quite awful, yet inexplicably popular. He once remarked he was a working writer, he wrote for money, not art. Good for him. At least he is honest about it. I hope my remarks encourage you to try him out if you’re not already familiar with him. I am writing this from memory, I wish not to color my judgement of him by reading modern reviews or synopses of his work. This is what I took away from his writing.

Please feel free to respond. I am interested in your opinion of him.
