IN TB’s response to my post “What’s going on in our armed forces”? in CE, 5/7/13, our partisan propagandist has devised a carefully crafted riposte designed to defuse the impact of the DOD report in question, and its conclusions.
TB can’t come out and say its all a pack of hippy lawyers lying their asses off to slander our brave legions, but he does everything he can to make us arrive at that conclusion on our own.
Let us take a moment and deconstruct the work of our very own master of double talk and runaround. I’ve taken the liberty of highlighting TB’s comments and providing a translation of their subtext, the responses they are calculated to elicit from the reader.
Both volumes can be downloaded

Anybody who wants to know exactly whats going on will need to have a lot more
time to kill than I do.
Translation: There is way too much information than needed to merely present an honest case. Beware, my friends, I smell a rat.
The link gives the impression that the writer is perfectly ready to let the facts speak for themselves, knowing most readers are not going to plow through hundreds of pages of bureaucratic jargon and see just what the report actually says.
I do note that the military definitions have been changing over time:
Translation: As always, they keep moving the goalposts on us, and altering their definitions to suit their true, sinister agenda.
He targets a few carefully selected excerpts to make his point. I do note it is the only material he actually quotes from the report.
Here follows a long catalog of crimes he quoted from the military documents, which obviously prove most of the charges as legalistic nit-picking or deliberately made up as they went along.
I’ve printed his catalog without additional confusing verbiage, and with all but the actual charges edited out and arranged in the same order for comparison. The changes are mostly semantic, they are not all that different, and probably reflect the precise, legal wording of the original documents, interviews, transcripts etc, from different studies and sources. But the impression is deftly planted that these lawyers (boo, hiss) are messing with us for their own nefarious purposes.

Translation: It is clear these lawyers are out to discredit our brave boys in uniform by splitting hairs and bringing up irrelevancies and technicalities.
See for yourself in the propagandist’s own comments.
By the definitions I’ve looked up, since the end of 2007 “sexual assault” in
the military now applies to everything from rape to grabbing someone’s ass (the
latter being “abusive sexual contact”. This may be affecting the statistics, at
least for any comparisons before and after 2007, but I have not looked into it
enough to state that positively.
Translation: All that rape, nonconsensual sodomy, and assault stuff is exaggerated. And what’s a little innocent grab-assin’ to our tough boys and girls? They can take a little good natured horseplay. It’s good for morale and builds unit cohesiveness. Didn’t you see “Starship Troopers”?
“This may be affecting the statistics,” that’s priceless, Tom, fucking priceless. In Spanish that little rhetorical maneuver has a name, it’s called an indirecta.
Don’t ask me why “wrongful sexual contacts” got dropped last summer, or why
“aggravated sexual assault” got dropped to “sexual assault.” Ask a lawyer.
It is obvious that the military is paying close attention, at least as far as
gathering data is concerned.
Translation: They’re making all this stuff up. It’s all political correctness carried to extremes in order to pad the highly infrequent and unusual true sexual crimes that might occur once in a blue moon. Ask a lawyer. You know how they lie. Especially the liberal ones.
You have to admit, our TB is a virtuoso of partisan propaganda.
Without altering one documented fact, or lying, TB has managed to convey to his audience the subliminal message that the entire content of the original post is exaggerated and probably irrelevant, and that it is probably a deliberate obfuscation by political enemies of the military determined to discredit it and emasculate it. There is no epidemic of rape in the military, its all liberal lawyer lies. Why do they hate our freedom so?
He’s good. He’s really, really good.
