You do realize, I know, that you are trying to explain negative numbers and fractions to someone who knows positive integer arithmetic and that's all. He's not going to understand anything else.

Does this guy remind you of the priests during the Inquisition? The Earth is the center of the Universe.

"Follow the money", he says, and yet he is blind, completely blind to the money.

Give it up. A nice guy who hasn't learned a thing since he was 10, who is not a leader, not a thinker but as blind a follower of authority as that 10 year old. He's not capable of independent thought, or admitting he's wrong. "There is none so blind as he who will not see", and TB is unable to apply his values, his standards, his expectations, even to himself. Cannot do it, cannot see the contradictions. Can you expect him to see anything else?

There must have been some fierce authoritarian model in his house. Paralyzed, unable to think, a nice guy, an abused guy, and the consummate follower of the type despots find necessary.

By picking and choosing only safe data he believes more and more deeply what he is told to. Terrified to step outside his comfort zone and question some of his own demonstrably flawed beliefs, he is trapped, not having the flexibility to admit he might be wrong. Because his entire idea of himself is wrapped up in the notion he is right, or he's worthless.

Too bad,as he is a nice guy. I'd buy him a beer, or two. I'd be delighted to have him as a neighbor, especially if I could watch him struggle with raccoons. I'd import raccoons. But he does not have the ability to analyze data for himself. He thinks he does, but he always winds up where he's told to wind up. He's a follower.

I believe he is also desperately ignoring, avoiding, denying and warping the data that he is what he says he hates. The epitomy of it, and I'm not going to go into that in any depth. The Emperor may be better off thinking he's clothed. It's no skin off my nose.

<blockquote>"If the crisis goes, then they will no longer serve a purpose, will they?

But the crisis isn’t going anywhere, is it?"</blockquote>

One difference between us is that I connected those two statements and formed a conclusion.

But the crisis isn't going anywhere, is it?

TB, your whole position on the climate issue has never been one of prudent skepticism and caution. Ever since I saw your first post on it, you have been trying to make it go away, and your arguments have been always been formulated on ideological grounds, and for ideological reasons. All that research and scientific jargon and nimble sidestepping has gone for naught. (I've always wanted to use "gone for naught" in a sentence!)

With that kind of record, is it any wonder you simply are not taken seriously on any issue any more? We know why you come here and what you really care about. You are desperate for us to believe what you believe, and you get furious when we don't.

All this schoolyard bully-boy talk about ducking points and pies blown back doesn't intimidate anybody. You're selling snake oil. I don't have to feel sorry for refusing a dose.
I don't have to refute what you think. I don't care what you think.

It's staring you in the face and you can't see it.

Did you actually say "keep ducking"?

<p>Am I being lectured on "changing the subject?" :)</p>

I never brought up the Sierra Club, you did, trying to pretend that they were a big part of the pro-climate-change forces (along with "a few college professors"). They aren't, not by a long shot, and I said so.

So essentially, the pie you threw in your second paragraph here just blew back in your face, but I suppose that's neither here nor there.

The cartoon made my point on the IPCC. If the crisis goes, so do they.

Part of the point you keep ducking.

You brought them up in your snarky little cartoon.

I'm sure the Sierra Club spends a lot of money on other things besides trying to undermine the capitalist system and take over the free world.

You're just spinning your wheels, now. I'm surprised you haven't changed the subject to polar bears.

I was discussing money spent directly on support of the climate change industry, and money directly spent on opposition.

Oil industry profits are no more relevant to those specific numbers than the fact that the government spends $3.6 trillion every year on many things besides climate change.

Try and stay on the rails.

The oil industry alone rakes in over a $100 billion in profit per year.
Not revenue. Profit.

That's over 14 times what the total the government spends on the environment.

And remember, the carbon trading system was originally an American Enterprise Institute idea, until Obama expressed an interest in it.

Also remember, the IPCC estimates on arctic ice melting proved to be way short of what has actually measured. Their estimate was (dare I say it?) way too conservative.
