Some need to bore you with interminable anecdotes and statistics about their sports teams. Some have to remind you constantly how good (or bad) the President is. Some need to play their music loudly so everyone on the street can hear them and see how cool they are. Some need to wear their pants below their ass just to piss you off. And some need to remind you constantly how "they don't take no shit from nobody." Its a free country. If people need to force you to see them reassuring themselves then we haven't got much choice but to put up with their insecurities. Its when they expect you to join them in their devotional sycophancies, or start condemning you for not being sufficiently enthusiastic, that you realize where they're really coming from. There used to be a kid in my school who would not say the Pledge of Allegiance or salute the flag because he was a Jehovah's Witness, and even though that was his constitutional right, he caught hell for it from the patriotic bullies who were determined to enforce their own brand of political correctness. A lot are American flags, but quite a few are Mexican. It's their vehicle, and if they want to fly flags or cover the entire back of the car with political bumper stickers (also common), it's no skin off my nose.
