Two of the CSI themes are here, “Baba O’Riley” which you saw them perform live above, and “Won’t Get Fooled Again”, the ultimate expression of political disgust (or is it disgust with politics?), and which ends with the greatest scream in all Rock and Roll, no exceptions. The third CSI theme is
“Who are You?”, which is off their “Quadrophenia” album.

Another of my favorites here is “Behind Blue Eyes”, which may just be one of the most moving songs ever written.

The first 9 tunes here are the original “concept album”. Listen to them first, in order, and all at once if possible. They are not interconnected, they are independent songs, but they do tend to “fit together” in some deep visceral way that’s hard to describe. The “extra bonus tracks” I can’t vouch for, I’ve never heard them and as far as I know were never previously released. There’s probably a very good reason for that.

I think it must have to do with what you listened to at puberty. I can rattle off the names of most groups from the 50′s and a few from the 60′s when I hear them but once I started working for a living, it just became about listening to music with no particular interest in who the performer was. I like a lot of rock music but my tastes lean more to folk and blues.

I have never been into buying/collecting music other than some classical/opera albums.

But those were recorded in the 70s, when the Who were at the peak of their power. They still occasionally perform, they did a disappointing Super Bowl halftime just a few years ago. But they are just old farts now, like most of their fans (myself included). Still, as late 60s, British Invasion groups go, they had a great influence and left an amazing body of work.

They were the first ones to sing (in “My G-G-Generation”), “I hope I die before I get old” Two of them, Entwhistle (bass) and Moon (drums) already have.

I really like what they brought to the old Who standard, but this was no parody, it honors its original power and spirit. Thanks for posting this, I saw it once on TV but I wasn’t aware it was available on line.

At the very least, he has the best scream.
