A gun in the hand of a police officer is used responsibly, to protect others, while in the hand of a crook it becomes a tool to be used often and for self gain.

The Patriot Act as used by the Bush Administration was a cover for “exceptions” – not a tool to be used to dig up dirt on your political enemies, blackmail Supreme Court Justices opposed to Obamacare or an invitation to wholesale invade the privacy of every American.

During the Bush years intelligence agents would gather phone record information on people calling known terrorist or affiliated with terrorist and people making foreign calls to countries where terrorist cells are known to be.
Obama expanded this to gathering phone record information on everybody in the USA no matter what.
Obama has expanded the Patriot Act to meet his needs even though he railed how disgusting Bush was for implementing it in the first place.

I just can’t remember very well that program during BushII that we debated. It had something to do with phone records as well. People in the news are speaking as if this is completely different. I’m just trying to tease out if it’s different or not, and how. I assume it is different.

Regardless, if a thing is overreach then it is so for whichever administration does it.

You’ve obviously bought in to the idea that every question I ask means I’m trying to trap you somehow. Too much TB. In that other thread he even advised you not to respond to me. If that’s the way it’s going to be around here, then I won’t stay for much longer.

As far as I know, they don’t actually tap content. On a related note though, I’m glad my e-mail is locally stored and not sitting in Google’s servers.
