and you are in line with most women including Kristen Powers a democrat who worked in the Clinton administration.

"Stand with the pink-sneakered Texas legislator and her fight to allow mothers to abort babies past the 20th week of pregnancy? Never—and most women wouldn’t either, says Kirsten Powers."

"One can assume I am also not the only woman in America who is really tiring of the Wendys of the world claiming to represent “women’s rights” in their quest to mainstream a medical procedure—elective late-term abortion—that most of the civilized world finds barbaric and abhorrent. In many European countries, you can’t get an abortion past 12 weeks, except in narrow circumstances. Gallup reported in January that 80 percent of Americans think abortion should be illegal in the third trimester, and 64 percent think it should be illegal in the second trimester."

What utter bilge.

Sure, and we don't want voter fraud, either, but the rules that help solve these so-called social problems are always designed so they affect the groups the Republicans don't like more than others. These laws were specifically engineered to go after abortion clinics, (and in voter suppression, voters likely to vote democratic). And it happens only in states with Republican-controlled legislatures, passed in the dead of night without public debate or press exposure.

And don't get me started on Republican forced vaginal ultrasound probes. These rednecks are fucking savages.

As for your comments about sex education...really, Jody. Teenagers don't need to be taught to be "titillated into a frenzy of wonderlust and experimentation". Nature and evolution have hard-wired them that way. I know I was! Teens have to be brainwashed and intimidated into thinking God will punish them for sex in order to dissuade them from doing what comes perfectly natural. Its a cultural mechanism to regulate natural behavior and if you are unfamiliar with other cultures you can contrast with your own, as are most Anglos, you won't see it.

When I was a kid, We were taught that getting a girl in trouble would bring dishonor to my family, cause enormous financial problems, ruin our lives with an unhappy marriage, and make the child feel unwanted and abandoned.

The Cracker kids were taught sex was DIRTY and god would punish you for it. But out-of-wedlock births (and rape) were almost unknown in the Cuban community, while the Anglos (if my high school was typical) were constantly holding shotgun weddings. And of course, the abundant adult sex hangups and neuroses of the "white" community are very well recognized, even by the whites themselves. These folks still suffer the legacy of their witch-burning Puritan ancestors.

Sex education won't stop sex any more than health education will prevent disease. But at least, you can teach people how to properly brush their teeth and wash their hands.

Simply because something is in the Bible does not give it respectability. Creationism is not a respectable argument, oyster-eating being an abomination is not a respectable argument, and a fetus as a human being is not a respectable argument.

In the 21st century those are ignorant arguments, and the imprimatur of the Christian Bible can neither offer respectability or legitimacy.

Many people believing something does not give it legitimacy. It may give it respectability in some circles, but no matter how many people believed, for instance, in Creationism it would not be a legitimate cause.

And I'd respectfully submit that the approval of the Roman Catholic Church is has no bearing on reality. That group of pampered, super-wealthy old men have a very skewed view of the world.

It is how you feel.

I don't get the same feeling as you. I can only go by my reasonableness, moral compass and what facts are being presented.
If there is an underlying agenda it will be discovered soon enough and it will backfire.
I am truly behind the bill with the 20 weeks and no later abortion. Actually staunch advocate would be more what I am feeling. (Funny..odd funny..I could never have an abortion. However someone near and dear to me did at nineteen and I paid for it.)
The Doctor SHOULD have admitting privileges...you can't even imagine how things can go horribly wrong in an instant.

The abortion clinics need to get their surgical standards up to a higher level, if they are found lacking. Good Gawd ER...you want our hospitals in compliance with top stringent protocols in place, I would think. What gives abortion clinics the right to answer to a different code of regulations?

Now I don't have anything but my feelings on this next statement.
I think sex education, like drug education, does nothing more than titilate the young into a frenzy of wonderlust and experimentation.

Condoms....well imho...they should be passed out FOR FREE at every pharmacy.

You don't have to agree with them to respect that position. The Catholics feel the same way. I don't agree with them either, but I don't question their motives.

But the evangelical Right believe their religion gives them the right to force those who don't accept it to do what they want. And when they can't get a majority in a democracy to accept their religious views, they are ready to use legislative dirty tricks to force their views on everybody else. I saw it happen with Civil Rights, and now its happening with Women's Rights and gay Rights. (Remember, its not just abortion they are trying to stop, but contraception and sex education, too.)

I know these people, Jody. I was brought up with them. They are sexually dysfunctional because of their caveman religion, and their problem is not about morality or religion. They are simply furious that there are people out there screwing and getting away with it and they couldn't. This is not a thorny philosophical or political conflict, they are just psychologically crippled.

and I get where you are coming from. I just emailed my niece in Houston she is a P.A. in ob/gyn.

I asked her what were the surgical standards that are so stringent.

I understand the under currents of dismay for the GOP on this.
