A heat which simply brings a glow to bare metal, not a red-hot blacksmith heat. A heat which brings a sense of security, not panic. A healthy heat, a specific preventative for frostbite, guaranteed to prevent frozen digits and limbs.

It's a heat which spawns gratitude, as people appreciate air conditioning to an extent never seen, and worship the ground A/C repairmen walk on. The economy is stimulated by sales of air conditioners and electricity. It's all good.

It only got up to 78 degrees here today, we were robbed, cheated. It's a damned shame.

"prickly heat" was a skin condition, a sort of rash, which could be caused by extreme heat, or failure to bathe regularly.

Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and Nevada are uninhabitable, fit only for those with pores the size of dimes and a direct connection to a cold water line. Those who choose to live there are tough.

Texas belonged to the Mexicans for a reason, a very good reason.

Although I will say that northern Texas was quite nice.

There's the "draw heat", which sounds like the baking heat of the sun's rays bouncing off the walls of a "draw", or arroyo. It must be a preferable kind of heat, because the term is usually prefaced by "at least it's a draw heat!".

Which must be better than the "prickly heat", which in my innocence I resolutely believe to be the itchy sensation of a lot o' sweatin' and a scratchin' in the heat n' humidity. Prickly heat is sort of the opposite of draw heat, I guess.

More specific is the phrase "taint tha heat, it's tha humidity", which seems to describe the conditions prevailing on a hot day in the eponymously-named region of the body.

Which brings me to my question now: What is "ass heat"?

Is "ass heat" found only in Texas, or is "ass heat" common across the South, and just bigger in Texas, as of course all things are? And how does "ass heat" steal your soul? Does "ass heat" take a photograph? Perform a voodoo ritual? Get Westboro Baptist to pray for you to lose your soul? Or am I confusing that last one with "ass hat"? If "ass heat" is bigger in Texas, does it steal more souls from Texas? That might explain the Texas Legislature, mightn't it?
