Cutting the mustard July 11, 2013 12:59 pm FrankC

Etymology is one of my many casual interests. The source of this phrase is quite uncertain. Some think it is related to the excellence of the condiment and others think it is related to the military term “muster”. And then, there is this:

Cutting The Mustard

This is from Urban Dictionary and it is very definitive, while other sources are very uncertain and none refer to the “knife” mentioned by UD.

Is the Urban Dictionary that good or are they just full of shit?
