The second piece of bullshit was the assertion that “study after study” proves that businesses paying less than this arbitrary “living wage” drain net wealth from a city rather than increase it. It’s obvious that since everyone in D.C. in the same bracket has been paying less than this up until now, the city should have imploded years ago. I declare that there are no such studies, and never have been.

If this is “minutia,” make the most of it.

Wal-mart will stop being a target of the Left five minutes after they unionize. If you want to know what this is about, take 1.3 million U.S. employees, and multiply by the typical union dues of around $20 a month.

Detroit had a specific type of “governance” for about half a century. Chicago is circling the same drain.

Just as the teabaggers in the House take pride in obstructing governance, you seem to take great pride in obstructing discussion. You represent a conservatism that’s devolved into nothing more than a reflexive “no!”.

And cities are dying from it.

Every news story I read about this program, mainstream or otherwise, accepts as a given that this was targeted at Wal-mart. Hell, your original post (“Washington DC”) implied nothing else.

As for the rest of your gibbering…you still haven’t read the law, have you? Check out Section 2, which begins on page fucking one and lays out the rationale behind the policy in small words that you should be able to follow. Despite your random eructation of the word “random”, it’s all spelled out for you. Read it.

If “study after study” tells us that wages below $12.50 are “poverty wages” requiring subsidy from the city, explain how all the thousand of other jobs in the city at the lower minimum wages are managing without sucking the city dry.

Remember, this $12.50 minimum wage doesn’t exist at all in D.C. right now.

This whole thing is a sop to their leftist constituency. They know damn well it will probably get vetoed, same as a similar law in Chicago did. “Well, we tried.”

So they randomly picked those business characteristics out of a hat. Somehow square footage is very important, as is the size of the owner company. Somehow it’s not important to include “banks, conventions, credit unions, educational institutions, franchisees, hospitals, hotels, restaurants, savings institutions and trade shows.” Fuck living wages for those guys.

And of course, we allow a waiver if the store unionizes, which excludes any unionized stores.

And not to put too fine a point on it, Wal-mart is specifically named in the law. Twice.

Here’s the key to how your mind works: There’s always a villain.

Nothing (that you don’t like) ever happens for straightforward, simple reasons. There’s always a villain who is guilty of making it happen to further their own nefarious, hidden agenda (hidden except to you).
