Love black walnut. You don't see too many pieces of black walnut. I have a hutch (early 1900's) that I bought off a friend over 20 years ago made of black walnut, but never had to refinish it. I found registration numbers stamped into the wood on one of the drawers but I have never found out what they mean. I can't find out who made it either, but we sure enjoy it's rich wood and style with carvings.

Sometimes those finds turn out to be prizes and it sounds like you did great by scooping up that piece and will be rewarded again. Never understand why people paint hardwood furniture. Good for you to strip it and bring it back to it's glory.
